Course software
The software will be the following:
Rhinoceros (3D modeling)
Grasshopper (parametric design)
DIVA4 (daylight design)
Radiance (daylight simulations)

To download and install all the necessary software and components follow the following steps:

1 – Rhinoceros. 3D modeling software - website http://www.rhino3d.com/. Download from here https://www.rhino3d.com/download/rhino-for-windows/6/evaluation  an evaluation version of Rhino 6 for Windows that will run for 90 days (after an educational version can be purchased). Rhino 6 is only 64bit, if your computer has a 32bit operating system then you have to use Rhino 5. There is also an evaluation version of Rhino 5 at the following link https://www.rhino3d.com/download/rhino/5/latest There is also Rhino 5 for Mac but it is suggested to use a Windows operating system on Mac because the environmental simulation software won’t run on Mac. Install Rhinoceros with default settings. For further use of the software a large quantity of learning material is available at http://www.rhino3d.com/tutorials.

2 – Grasshopper. Together with the installation of Rhino 6 the parametric/generative design software Grasshopper is installed. For further use of the software a large quantity of learning material is available at http://www.grasshopper3d.com/page/tutorials-1An excellent manual is available here http://grasshopperprimer.com/en/index.html
If you installed a version of Rhino 5 then you need to download and install Grasshopper separately from the following link http://www.grasshopper3d.com/page/download-1.

3 - DIVA4. Daylight and energy design software for Rhinoceros and Grasshopper - Website http://diva4rhino.com/ to download DIVA go to the page http://www.solemma.net/Download.html of the Solemna company that produce the software. Fill the required information and chose the version 64bit if you have installed Rhino 6 (because you have a Windows operating system at 64 bit) or chose the version
32bit if you have installed Rhino 5 at 32bit (because you have a Windows operating system at 32bit). The .exe file of the installation contain DIVA4 and all the necessary design and simulation software that will be installed automatically (Archsim, Radiance, Daysim and EnergyPlus). After having finished the installation the tabs of DIVA4 and Archsim will be available in Grasshopper.
The software DIVA4 works for 30 days. So it is important to request an educational free license here http://www.solemma.net/Buy-Edu-Lic-40.html
Known bugs. In some recent courses some students encountered problem with the software DIVA4 that was not working.  So please check the following two things:
- Be careful to chose the right version 32bit or 64bit as your Windows operating system
- If you are using the 64bit version of Rhino and DIVA4 check if is present the file in the relative folder C:\DIVA\64bitPluginFiles\liblmxnet.dll if the file is not present reinstall the software without virus scanner.
